DMTC Annual Report released

DMTC is proud to announce the release of its latest Annual Report, which is available online and is currently being distributed to key stakeholders.

The report summarises the activities and achievements of the DMTC community for the July 2016 – June 2017 period and highlights continuing efforts to deliver enhanced Defence capabilities while also investing in Australian industrial capacity and in the research leaders of the future.

Our report also looks forward to opportunities and strategic developments for DMTC and its industry and research partners in 2018 and beyond.

DST Scientist honoured with Minister’s Award

DMTC congratulates Defence scientist, Ms Zenka Mathys, PSM, who has won the 2017 Minister’s Award for Achievement in Defence Science for improving fire safety for Navy ships, submarines and crew.

Ms Mathys is also a member of the DMTC Project 9.14 team, looking to advance blast and shock testing methodologies.

Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, congratulated Ms Mathys (from Defence Science and Technology’s Maritime Division) for her outstanding scientific achievement in developing fire protection systems which have contributed significantly to the survivability of Navy platforms.

“Ms Mathys is a very deserving winner of this important defence science award,” Minister Payne said.

The annual Minister’s Award for Achievement in Defence Science recognises original and outstanding contributions capable of enhancing Australia’s defence effectiveness and efficiency.

Success for DMTC at Innovation Awards

DMTC has featured prominently in prestigious awards recognising success in naval and maritime innovation.

The Maritime Australia Industry Innovation Awards were presented by the Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, on 4 October at the Pacific 2017 International Maritime Exposition in Sydney.

DMTC received a High Commendation for its leadership of a project to study Microbiological Corrosion on Australian naval vessels, and DMTC researcher Peter Kabakov was recognised with the prestigious Young Innovator scholarship prize.

Employed by the Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation (ANSTO), Mr Kabakov has worked on a DMTC project involving research partners ANSTO and University of Wollongong and DMTC industry partner Thales Australia (Thales Underwater Systems) to establish an Australian production capability for single crystal, piezoelectric ceramics.
