DMTC, Thales awarded Innovation Hub contract

Minister for Defence Industry, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC, used her keynote address at the DMTC 2019 Annual Conference to announce a new Innovation Hub project.

The contract is valued at $272,000.

In partnership with Thales Australia Ltd and research partners, DMTC will  deliver technical advancements to the Soldier Lethality System, specifically small-arms systems.

The next-generation solution proposes to deliver significant capability improvements for soldiers in dismounted close combat.

Collaborators honoured with prestigious awards

DMTC has honoured brilliant young researchers and long-time collaborators at its 2019 Awards for Excellence.

Projects at the leading edge of technology advancement in the land vehicle and naval shipbuilding domains – working with industry primes like Thales Australia and BAE Systems and leading University and research agencies – were acknowledged with awards. (more…)

International recognition for “quiet achiever”

Former DMTC Director, Emeritus Professor John Norrish, has been made a Fellow of the American Welding Society in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the discipline.

The AWS is the peak body for welding and joining technology in the United States, with about 70,000 members industry, national research labs, universities and training organisations from the US and around the world.

Being elected a Fellow of the Society is a recognition of the distinguished contribution of individual members in the field of welding science and technology, in John’s case over more than 50 years.

Earlier this year John was also made a Fellow of DMTC, at which time DMTC Chair Tony Quick acknowledged John for his “unquenchable energy, vitality, willingness and ability to get involved in the detail of so many of our critical programs.”
