DMTC is pleased to announce that it will be presenting a new four-part briefing series in 2013. The aim of the briefings is to increase the awareness within the Defence community on the objectives and outcomes of the DMTC. Discussion will include how the DMTC model works, technical achievements to date, and opportunities to engage with DMTC into the future.
The briefings are open to all; however they are targeted towards CDG and DMO representatives with an interest in technology and capability management and planning. Discussion and questions after each briefing are encouraged. This is an excellent chance to engage with DMTC and is not to be missed!

The 2013 DMTC Awards for Excellence were presented at this years’ Annual Conference Dinner at the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra. The DMTC Awards for Excellence recognise significant contributions made by individuals and teams that have resulted in successful outcomes for DMTC and its partners. DMTC would like to congratulate the following 2013 award recipients for their outstanding contributions this year:
Industry Partnership Award
This award recognises researchers whose efforts have significantly contributed to the capability of a DMTC Industry Participant.
Awarded to: Nathan Larkin of University of Wollongong and Stephen Pan of University of Wollongong
Research Collaboration Award
This award recognises the individual who embodies the spirit of collaboration that is integral to DMTC’s strategic intent.
Awarded to: Michael Ling of DSTO
Early Career Award
This award recognises the contribution of early career technical officers, engineers and scientists to DMTC projects, rewarding ‘above and beyond’ efforts.
Awarded to: Lenka Kuzmikova of University of Wollongong
Capability Improvement Award
This award recognises the project team who achieves a significant improvement in technical capability in the area of materials and/or manufacturing technology.

At the conclusion of the conference awards were also presented for the best presentations and poster. Winners were as follows:

Minister for Defence Materiel, the Hon. Mike Kelly MP has noted the importance of defence industry, and defence industry programs in equipping and sustaining the Australian Defence Force in a statement on the role of defence industry. The Minister quotes BAE Systems’ CEO David Allott’s comments from the story on DMTC’s activities which aired recently on the ABC’s 7:30 Report. The Minister’s statement reinforces the concept that defence industry is a defence capability in itself. DMTC welcomes this statement and looks forward to hearing more of Minister Kelly’s views as the keynote speaker at the DMTC Conference dinner in Canberra, on March 19.
The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering is holding an event on the 7th of March 2013 on “Manufacturing, Materials and National Security (The Economy, Capability and Defence)”. The presenter will be DMTC’s CEO, Dr Mark Hodge.
