The DMTC Board of Directors has created Honorary Fellowship positions as a form of prestigious recognition, by the Board, of significant meritorious contribution to the goals and objectives of DMTC Limited and its partners.
The first three Fellowship recipients were announced at the DMTC Annual Conference in March 2018. A fourth was announced at the DMTC Annual Conference in April 2023.
Emeritus Professor David St. John
"David is perhaps 'the person most responsible' for the fact the DMTC exists, having conceived and managed the original bid for the DMTC contract back in 2007. It is his DNA that ran so strongly through the veins of the early DMTC model. He was able to assemble such a wonderful group of industrial and research sector partners who ... are still actively contributing to and benefiting from the DMTC model today. We’re thrilled that someone of David’s international reputation was and still is, so passionately involved in our organisation." Tony Quick
"Peter Preston was in so many ways, the father of DMTC following our announcement as the successful consortium for the initial contract. His leadership was pivotal through the establishment of the Board of Directors, and as our founding Chair of the Board from 2008-2011. Importantly, Peter set down the strategic vision, guidelines and policies by which DMTC still operates today, and established the strong Board culture of decision by consensus. His approach to the early stages of the DMTC contract set us up for success in so many ways, not the least of which was the strong, principles-based approach to our interactions with each other, and with external groups." Tony Quick
Emeritus Professor John Norrish
"John Norrish’s recent retirement from the DMTC Board of Directors was accepted under protest! We have all benefited from his unquenchable energy, vitality, willingness and ability to get involved in the detail of so many of our critical programs. He constantly reminded the Board of the importance of research. He has also been a champion and active architect of DMTC's Education Program. We are also so privileged to call someone with such a peerless global reputation in his field, one of our own. John’s credibility around all things welding is such that we are quite sure that many of our industrial partners have become involved in DMTC activities on the strength of the fact that John was a DMTC Director. In that regard, we are so pleased that his retirement from the Board has not coincided with his retirement from active participation and advice on our technical program, and we look forward to him being 'a part of the furniture' for some time to come."
